This was the 88th year this CBC has been conducted. The first Buckeye Lake CBC was conducted in 1921, and not performed in 1923 and 1926.

Weather During the Observation Period

Temperature: Low: 17 °F at 6:30 a.m. High: 27 °F at 2:00 p.m.
Wind: 0-7 mph, SW
Sky: Light overcast early, clear and sunny from mid-morning to early-afternoon, then increasing clouds.
Precipitation: None. 3 inches of snow cover already existing.
Bodies of Water: Moving water mostly frozen. Standing water frozen. Buckeye Lake covered with ice, 5-6 inches thick.

Level of Effort

Observers: 19 observers in 5 field teams, plus 1 feeder watcher. Total of 20 participants.
Party Distance: 275.1 miles by car, 9.1 miles on foot.
Party Time: 30 hours by car, 10 hours on foot.
Hours Afield: Observations occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.
Bird Feeders: 1 feeding station in the Harbor Hills neighborhood was monitored during the day.
Owling: One party of 8 observers searched expressly for owls on Dawes Arboretum landholdings from 6:45-8:00 a.m. (1.25 hours). Distance covered: 1 mile on foot, 5.8 miles by car.
